Changing the degradation footprint of mining on Indigenous Lands

“…A study by Oviedo & Araújo 3 , using data from the Social Progress Index (SPI) for the Amazon 4 and the municipalities with Indigenous lands affected by illegal mining, showed that these municipalities have lower social progress indicators compared with municipalities that do not have mining in their territory. Analysis of variance (ANOVA) showed a significant difference between the means at the 5% probability level in the SPI value in 2021 among municipalities with and without mining activities.…”
