“…The available therapies or pharmacological drugs for the treatment of fatigue are very limited (Uthayathas et al, 2007), which necessitate potential alternatives from the extracts of traditional herbs and their respective performance of action are worth investigating (Tharakan et al, 2005). Herbs or other botanicals and their extracts or concentrates mentioned in literature as dietary supplements (Sen and Chakraborty, 2016) have the potential to mitigate fatigue, accelerate the elimination of fatigue-related metabolites and improve exercise performance (Tharakan et al, 2005, Lee et al, 2012and Zink 2016 (Radha and Laxmipriya, 2015;Bopana and Saxena, 2007;Kenjale et al, 2007;Shirolkar et al, 2013;Lamba et al, 2011;Mukhopadhya et al, 2001). In this context, the diversity of nutritional constituents from these herbs could be investigated for their possible role in alleviating fatigue generated during exercise performance.…”

“…Many Indian plants have been investigated for their beneficial use as antioxidants or source of antioxidants using presently available experimental techniques (Ali et al 2008). Asparagus racemosus is mainly known for its phytoestrogenic properties. With an increasing realization that hormone replacement therapy with synthetic estrogens is neither as safe nor as effective as previously envisaged, the interest in plant-derived estrogens has increased tremendously making A. racemosus particularly important (Bopana & Saxena 2007). In Ayurveda, A. racemosus has been described as a rasayana herb and has been used extensively as an adaptogen to increase the non-specific resistance of organisms against a variety of stresses.…”

“…Besides use in the treatment of diarrhoea and dysentery, the plant also has potent antioxidant, immunostimulant, anti-dyspepsia and antitussive effects. Bopana and Saxena (2007) evaluated the biological activities, pharmacological applications and clinical studies of A. racemosus in their critical review.…”

“…Acemannan, a partially acetylated polysaccharide found in the Aloe vera gel, is responsible for its biological activities (Chokboribal et al, 2015;Kumar and Tiku, 2016). Aspargus racemosus of Asparagaceae family has been referred as bitter-sweet, emollient, cooling, nervine tonic, constipating, aphorodisiac, diuretic, rejuvenating, carminative, stomachic, antiseptic and as tonic and also has potent antioxidant, immunostimulant, anti dyspepsia and antitussive effects (Bopana and Saxena, 2007). Chlorophytum borivilianum belonging to Liliaceae family constitute a group of herbs used as "Rasayanas."…”
