The dolphinfish (Coryphena hippurus) is a migratory pelagic fish of tropical and subtropical waters. In the Mediterranean Sea, its abundance is seasonal between early summer and late autumn, particularly around the Balearic Islands (Spain), Sicily (Italy), Malta and on the Tunisian coasts. It is mainly targeted by commercial small-scale fisheries, by-catch of the surface longline fleet targeting Bluefin tuna and swordfish and recreational fisheries. Almost all catches are made on small-scale fishery by small vessels using Fish Aggregating Devices (FADs). The Gulf of Hammamet is one of the most important Mediterranean dolphinfish fisheries, which amounts around 20% of Mediterranean catches. Approximately 23,880 FADs are anchored every year in this area that represent about 38% of total Mediterranean anchored FADs. Approximatively 637,760 juveniles (17 and 75 cm-Fork Length, LF) are caught every year between August and December.
