Assessment of Bango River Water Quality on Different Land Uses

Abstract: River pollution in Indonesia is one of the biggest problems and tends to increase perpendicular to the rapidly developing population and human activities. As stated in Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) number 6, clean water and sanitation are also becoming an international priority of sustainability. Therefore, understanding the interaction pattern between pollution and various human activities around the site can be a consideration for water environmental pollution mitigation policies. This study assesses … Show more

“…The lowest abundance value was 90,44 particles per liter at point 1, while the highest was 267.44 particles/liter at point 4. This observation aligns with earlier research, which suggests that the abundance of microplastics corresponds to the level of population activity [12,13]. The statistical test using the Kruskal-Wallis test showed a significant difference in microplastic abundance among the research locations (p-value = 0.02374) Based on the research conducted in the drainage channels, it was found that the abundance of fibertype microplastics increased in locations where laundry industries were located.…”

“…On the other hand, pollution originating from agricultural activities comes from residues of fertilizers, pesticides, or livestock manure that enter water bodies and can be seen from the amount of dissolved nitrogen (N) and phosphate (P) in the river flowing from upstream to downstream [123,124]. River pollution originating from industrial processes usually contains heavy metals such as lead, mercury, zinc, nickel, chromium, cadmium, oil, and grease [122,125], increasing BOD and COD levels and lowering water pH [126].…”
