Assessment of climate change mitigation potential of the Macedonian transport sector

Abstract: a b s t r a c tAs forecasted by the International Energy Agency Energy Technology Perspectives baseline scenario, the largest increment in LDV (light-duty vehicles) stock, travel demand and transport sector energy consumption will take place in the developing world. In the developing countries where the import of used vehicles is allowed, a considerable portion of the LDV stock increment will be realized with used vehicles. In this paper, the analytical framework for assessment of climate change mitigation pote… Show more

“…It is argued that this approach has become inefficient in the case of EU (European Union) countries which strive towards decoupling their economic growth and energy consumption. Numerous initiatives towards lowering energy consumption in the EU by implementing different Directives, financial schemes and mechanisms, that should result in lowering energy demand in the future, substantiate this argument [7,8]. If the primary energy consumption and the GDP growth are compared, it is visible that in Croatia's case these two factors are still linked.…”

“…Qualitative data were usually derived from pairwise comparisons conducted by experts [29] or by the scholars themselves [45], whereas quantitative data were usually obtained from modelling tools [3]. The use of quantitative and qualitative data together has been applied widely applied, as discussed in [34,90,129], and a similar approach was applied in this study. However, this research is unique in terms of incorporating the preferences of the general public within the AHP framework for the assessment of transport-CO 2 e-mitigation measures.…”

“…In addition, ~ 58 GWh of project electricity will be sent to the Table 1 Macedonian legislative compliance with the EU RED (IPA 2010;IEA 2008;Ćosić et al, 2012;Dedinec et al, 2013;Markovska et al, 2009 No specific provisions made N national grid; no guidelines exist in the Grid Codes on costs for technical adaptation and/or costs-benefits of connection for new producers. With respect to the transportation segment the draft NREAP anticipates a 9.5% biofuel penetration in Macedonia's fuel mix by 2020.…”
