RESUMEN Introducción: La sintomatología depresiva en el postparto impacta negativamente en el sistema familiar. En México existe poca investigación al respecto por ello es primordial su estudio. Objetivo: Conocer la frecuencia de sintomatología depresiva postparto y los factores psicosociales que se le asocian. Material y métodos. Se entrevistaron 154 mujeres con 0 a 12 meses de postparto que acudieron a dos hospitales públicos de un estado del noreste México. Se aplicó el Cuestionario de Depresión Postparto de Edimburgo (EPDS) para medir la sintomatología depresiva y un Cuestionario de Factores Psicosociales diseñado por los investigadores. Resultados. El 16% de la muestra presentó sintomatología depresiva. Los factores que se le asociaron fueron estado civil de unión libre, familiar con depresión, tristeza en embarazo, acontecimiento vital estresante en embarazo, consumo de alcohol en embarazo, ansiedad, consumo de alcohol actual, insatisfacción con los cambios corporales, percibir mayor atención de la familia al bebé y haber experimentado tristeza en embarazos anteriores. Conclusiones. Existen factores psicosociales que se asocian a sintomatología depresiva en el postparto que es de relevancia conocer en la atención primaria con el fin de crear estrategias preventivas en las instituciones de salud. Palabras clave: Síntomas depresivos, depresión postparto, factores psicosociales. SUMMARY Background. Postpartum depressive symptomatology has a negative impact on the nuclear family. Research on this topic is scarce in Mexico, therefore conducting more studies in this field is of upmost importance. Objective. Finding out the frequency of postpartum depressive symptomatology and its associated psychosocial factors. Material and methods. 154 women at 0-12 months postpartum that attended two public hospitals in a northeast state of the Mexico were interviewed. They answered the Edinburgh Postpartum Depression Scale (EPDS), measuring depressive symptomatology, and a Psychosocial Factors questionnaire designed by the researchers.

The present study evaluated the effectiveness of Behavioral Activation (BA) on women smokers with depression and anxiety symptoms who received multi-component treatment for smoking cessation. Forty-nine women were randomly assigned to two groups. 1) experimental: BA and varenicline and 2) control, cognitive behavioral therapy for smoking cessation and varenicline. Both treatments were applied in 10 twice-weekly. The Beck Depression Inventory II, the Beck Anxiety Inventory, the Fasgeström Test, Smokerlyzer® piCO monitor for carbon monoxide breath tests, and the Behavioral Activation Scale for Depression were used. Project-by-Project Analysis (PPA) was carried out with bivariate logistic regression, including only those who had completed the treatment and follow-ups. In the second, Intention-to-Treat Analysis (ITA) used the Kaplan-Meier non-parametric method and the Log Rank Test for all those initially randomized. The results showed that the abstinence rate with the BA treatment was higher than for the cognitive behavioral treatment for smoking cessation. Furthermore, BA loss was lower than with the standard treatment. We therefore conclude that BA + varenicline was effective from the end of the smoking cessation treatment to the six-month follow-up.

Background: There is a lack of knowledge about factors that promote or hinder retention of smokers in treatment. Objective: The aim of this study was the identification of variables that predict retention of smokers who received a multicomponent treatment against smoking. Method: Participants (n = 79) simultaneously received pharmacological and psychological treatment, including an intervention phase prior to the date of smoking cessation. They were evaluated periodically in their abstinence, depressive and anxious symptoms, and were randomly assigned to three treatment conditions (nicotine patch, bupropion or nicotine patch + bupropion). Eighteen variables were grouped into four categories (demographic, consumption pattern, mood and treatment). Data were analyzed using student's t test and X 2 , for inclusion into a multivariate logistic regression model. Results: Results indicate that age of onset of regular tobacco consumption, secondary education and bupropion pharmacological treatment are significant in relation to the retention of smokers to smoking treatment. Discussion: The reported "age of onset" correlates with treatment retention (OR = 1.545, 95 % CI = 1.175-2.032). This variable has not previously been reported in the literature, and taking it into account in the design of prevention and treatment for smoking could increase their success.
