Assessment of efficacy and safety of two Egyptian protocols for treatment-experienced HCV patients: an observational study

Abstract: Background The devastating adverse effects of interferon (IFN) for the treatment of hepatitis C virus (HCV) lead to the emerging of direct acting antiviral agents (DAAs). This investigation was undertaken to assess safety and efficacy of two Egyptian DAA protocols for HCV: sofosbuvir (SOF)/daclatasvir (DCV)/simeprevir (SMV)/ribavirin (RBV) and sofosbuvir (SOF)/ombitasvir (OMB)/paritaprevir (PTV)/ritonavir (RTV)/RBV for 12 weeks in treatment-experienced HCV Egyptian patients. … Show more

“…25 In the 2022 survey, the viral clearance rate for all age groups was higher than it was in the 2015 survey, which suggests the one-time mass screening and treatment with DAAs strategy is more effective than the previous strategy of screening those who seek medical care and treating them with Peg-interferon and ribavirin. 26,27 Learning from Egypt's experience in eliminating chronic HCV would benefit countries with similar high prevalence rates.…”
