Assessment of Flood Propagation Due to Several Dams Break in Banten Province

Abstract: River Basin Organization of Cidanau-Ciujung-Cidurian (RBOC3) is a water authority in Banten Province that has the planning of six rockfill dams in development planning, i.e Karian, Pasir Kopo, Tanjung, Cilawang, Sindang Heula, and Cidanau Dam. Regarding to the emergency response plan, it is necessary to have an inundated area estimation due to a dam break. The objective of this study is to develop a flood hazard map based on dam break analysis in selected dams in Banten Province so that the flood situation can… Show more

“…The flood model to measure hazard level was simulated utilizing the 1D -2D coupled model of HEC-RAS version 6.0 as a well-recognized software to emulate flood occasions, as discussed in [8], [31], [34], which is also suitable for overtopping breach simulation [26], [27]. A DEM map with an 8.5 m resolution is used as a terrain map to create floodplain geometry.…”

“…The above discussion has the breach of Manggarai Gate is a high potential flood hazard scenario that should be encountered in improving flood risk reduction programs in the study area. A good enough prediction of flood propagation generated by dam break or gate breach has been discussed by several previous studies based on the physical model and or mathematical model [22][23][24][25][26][27][28][29].…”

“…In addition, [4] conducted an experimental model of dam break flow around several blockage configurations, while [5][6] conducted flood inundation numerical modeling due to break in Way Sekampung dam (Lampung) and Cipanas dam (West Java), using Hec-Ras model. [7] conducted the assessment of flood propagation due to several dams break in Banten Province to estimate the inundated area due to a dam break. This study therefore aims to analyze flood inundation mapping and break in Way Apu dam, using HEC-RAS 5.0.7 to identify the risk zone and early warning system of flood mitigation, within the dam's downstream area.…”
