Assessment of immunochromatographic test for rapid lymphatic filariasis diagnosis

Abstract: Summary:Two rapid immunodiagnostic tests (ICT Filariasis test®), developed for the quick diagnosis of Wuchereria bancrofti infection, have been validated in laboratory and field situation. The aim of this study was to assess the performance and usefulness of this antigen capture assay as a diagnostic method in three foci of lymphatic filariasis, located in the South Pacific (Society archipelago, French Polynesia), with different levels of endemicity. A sample of 1,595 patients was tested with this assay in par… Show more

“…In case of positive results with the ICT assay, a reference ELISA-based tech nique (Og4c3 kit, JCU Tropical Biotech Ltd., Townsville, Australia) was used for confirmation (Nguyen et al, 1999). We also studied the antistreptococcal antibody responses by estimating the anti-streptolysin O (ASLO) titers with an immunoturbidimetric assay (Tina-Quant® ASLO, using an Hitachi 717 instrument, BoehringerMannheim, Mannheim, Germany), and the anti-streptodornase B (ASDB) with an enzymatic inhibition (ADNase B®, Dade Behring, Paris La Defense, France).…”

“…The immunochromatographic method (AMRAD ICT, New South Wales, Australia), specially developed for the diagnosis of bancroftian filariasis in human serum or plasma, has shown various advantages when compared to the TBF. Besides the simplicity of daytime blood collection, the ICT card test has demonstrated high sensitivity and specificity when performed in serum 2,8,11,13,16,22,26 .…”

“…The biological diagnostic was revolutionized by tests detecting circulating filarial antigens [15] in patients carrying adult worms, whether symptomatic or not, with or without microfilariae. Their detection is more sensitive than screening and does not depend on the periodicity of microfilariae circulation; ELISA (Og4C3) or rapid immunochromatographic tests (ICT cards) [16][17][18][19] are available. ICT tests are the most frequently used tests in the South Pacific and used routinely in FP.…”
