“…In the 1960s, Aydelotte was the first to evaluate the effectiveness of nursing care delivery systems using changes in behavior and physical characteristics of patients (Marek, 1989). To highlight the contribution that nursing makes to patient care, additional research has been conducted by Hover and Zimmer (1978), Lalonde (1988), Lang and Clinton (1984), and Marek (1989) to determine nursing‐specific or nursing‐sensitive outcome indicators. The research conducted by Marek (1989) divided nursing‐specific or nursing‐sensitive outcome indicators into 15 categories and laid the foundation for research that was used by nursing researchers at the University of Iowa, heretofore known as the Iowa Outcome Project Development Team (IOPDT), in the development of the first edition of the NOC published in 1997 (Moorhead et al., 2004).…”

“…[85][86][87] Because of the complexity of factors that ordinarily mediate or moderate nursing process outcome linkages, nursing researchers who prepare for analysis of relationships must have some knowledge of a variety of multivariate statistical techniques. This is true whether the data are generated in a clinical trial or are extant in a secondary dataset.…”

“…1996). However, the effect of nursing care is not known because patient outcomes data are still lacking, although their importance has been pointed out many times (Nightingale 1946, Lang & Clinton 1984, Carr‐Hill et al. 1992, Huber et al.…”
