“…This is most likely related to a semi‐occlusive torsion of the cystic duct, which allowed partial passage of bile. The incidence of gastric dilatation and volvulus following splenectomy or hepatic lobectomy is unclear, 23,24 but in the present case, on the basis of the historical and surgical findings, the surgeon's choice was to proceed with gastropexy as a precautionary measure. In fact, because of the concurrent lack of spleen and two liver lobes in the cranial abdomen, more space was created, allowing greater movement of the remaining organs with a subsequently higher risk of new torsions.…”

“…However, Goldhammer and others (2010) reported no association between a splenectomy and an increased subsequent risk of GDV and gastropexy is not routinely performed by the authors.…”

“…A splenectomy could theoretically increase the risk of gastric rotation, so prophylactic gastropexy could be considered at the time of a splenectomy in high‐risk large and giant breeds. However, Goldhammer and others (2010) reported no association between a splenectomy and an increased subsequent risk of GDV and gastropexy is not routinely performed by the authors.…”
