Abstract: <p class="abstract"><strong>Background:</strong> Chronic otitis media (COM) is an inflammatory process in the middle ear space that results in long-term changes in the tympanic membrane including atelectasis, dimeric-membrane formation, perforation, tympanosclerosis, retraction pocket or cholesteatoma.
