Assessment of tree vitality as an indicator of monitoring the health condition of community forest in agroforestry patterns

Abstract: Community forest management usually applies agroforestry patterns because it is felt that they will provide more social, economic and ecological benefits. Optimal yields will be obtained if the community forest is healthy. It becomes an effort to prevent forest destruction at a low level through forest health, thereby ensuring the functions and benefits of managed community forests. One indicator of forest health is the amount of tree damage that occurs and the condition of the crown. The purpose of this repor… Show more

“…This is because at the location of Margasari the crown is small and sparse, causing the growth rate to be hampered. Small, sparse crowns indicate unfavorable growing site conditions (such as competition with other trees or too little or too much moisture) or other influences (such as defoliation from insects, disease of the leaves, or windstorms) [19].…”

“…A healthy tree indicates that the tree can perform its functions and has good productivity. The meaning of healthy here means that the tree is free from damage and disturbances that can cause it to be exposed to disease [20].…”

“…Disturbances, such as fires, droughts, landslides, invasive species, insect outbreaks, and diseases as well as climatic phenomena such as hurricanes, windstorms, and ice storms, affect the composition, structure, functioning, dynamics, and health of forest stands [De la Cruz et al, 2014;Trumbore et al, 2015;Prăvălie, 2018]. The goal of forest health is to maintain the functions and benefits of forests by controlling the severity of these damages [Safe'i et al, 2021;Safe'i et al, 2022]. Forest health monitoring is carried out to determine the current state of the forest, which takes into account the status of each ecological indicator to evaluate it.…”
