Assimilation of Satellite Radiances for Numerical Weather Prediction

Abstract: General data assimilation methodology is outlined. Variational, ensemble based, and hybrid ensemble-variational approaches currently used in operational weather forecasting are briefly reviewed. Their advantages and disadvantages are listed.
