Association among sperm chromatin condensation, sperm DNA fragmentation and 8‐OHdG in seminal plasma and semen parameters in infertile men with oligoasthenoteratozoospermia

Abstract: The present study aimed to investigate the clinical role of standard sperm diagnosis parameters (sperm concentration, motility, morphology) as well as aniline blue staining of histones, 8‐OHdG, TUNEL assay were performed on semen samples in infertile men with oligoasthenoteratozoospermia (OAT). Thirty‐two infertile and ten proven fertile men were included in the study. Chromatin condensation sperm in infertile men was significantly lower compared to the fertile men (p < 0.0001). Age, sperm concentration, morph… Show more

“…Therefore, DFI is an independent indicator of semen quality [ 35 ]. Rats in the OAT group exhibited a significant decline in sperm quality in contrast with the CON group, consistent with the basic features of OAT [ 36 ]. Noteworthy, DM prevented the deterioration in sperm quality, while ADM was not very effective.…”

“…This study showed that the effect of DM in preventing OAT was associated with the alleviation of testicular OS, although the underlying mechanism remains unclear. Previous studies [ 35 , 36 ] have shown that the Nrf2/HO-1 signaling pathway is strictly connected to OS. Nrf2 is involved in maintaining intracellular redox balance to prevent OS [ 51 ].…”

“…These findings were in line with the common knowledge that in most cases, fertile men had significantly higher semen quality than subjects who exhibited any abnormalities in semen profiles. 18,57,65,66 Additionally, the differences between the experimental groups and the control group are evidence of a well-selected reference population and of correct inclusion criteria for participants with high reproductive potential in the control group. Nevertheless, in our opinion, more interesting was the fact that in almost all investigated routine semen parameters, significant differences between experimental groups were found (Figure 3).…”

“…Similar findings have been demonstrated in other studies, where participants with poor sperm motility had lower basic semen quality than nonasthenozoospermic, normozoospermic and fertile men. 18,30,57,65,66,[75][76][77]…”
