Association between downexpression of MiR-203 and poor prognosis in non-small cell lung cancer patients

Abstract: MiR-203 could become a prognostic predictor in NSCLC and may be a new target for the molecular therapy of NSCLC patients.

“…miR‐203 is another microRNA frequently deregulated in different types of cancer (Li, Gao, & Zhang, ; Tang et al., ; Tian et al., ; Zhao et al., ). Focusing on this specific miRNA, our findings are corroborating previous studies reporting a tumor suppressor role of miR‐203 in HNSCC, as miR‐203 expression was significantly downregulated in patients with lymph node metastasis (Benaich et al., ; Obayashi et al., ).…”

“…Before transfection, NSCLC cells were plated in 96-well plates at 2.5 × 10 3 cells per well and maintained at 37°C for 24 h. Blank control, negative mimic control, miR-30d-5p mimic, negative inhibitor control and miR30d-5p inhibitor (Ambion) were transfected in NSCLC cell lines at a final concentration of 60 nmol/L with Lipofectamine 2000 following the manufacturer's instructions. The concentration for transfections was determined based on previous studies [28,34]. MiR-30d-5p expression was detected with RT-qPCR in Applied Biosystems PCR7900 system as described previously [29,30,35,36].…”

“…Previous studies provided evidence of a decreased expression of miR-203 in a variety of lung cancer tissue samples in contrast to the expression of normal human bronchial epithelial cells or normal lung tissues, respectively (43,44). Also, reduced expression of miR-203 was found to be associated with metastatic tumors (45).…”
