Association between endothelial and platelet function markers and adiponectin in renal transplanted recipients on cyclosporine and tacrolimus immunosuppression based therapy

Abstract: Adiponectin levels are elevated in line with ADMA and sP-selectin levels. Since CsA induces higher adiponectin levels, platelet activation and endothelial dysfunction. These changes may be responsible for the increased risk of post-transplant cardiovascular events in renal transplant patients.

“…However, other data in KTRs have shown positive correlations between higher adiponectin levels and lower survival rates [ 21 ]. In a study by Sahin et al [ 188 ], adiponectin levels were significantly higher in patients receiving cyclosporine compared with those on tacrolimus. Malgorzewicz et al [ 189 ] suggested that higher leptin levels in obese patients are a risk factor for CVD and chronic rejection.…”

“…Some platelet agonist studies have demonstrated improved platelet aggregation post-transplant with some, but not all, agonists [ 11–13 ]. Other groups did not demonstrate increased platelet aggregation with ADP, epinephrine, ristocetin or collagen [ 14–16 ].…”

“…This coincides with a study published in 2015 by Sahin et al . [30] They reported that CSA induces higher adiponectin levels, endothelial dysfunction,[3132] and platelet activation without inducing platelet aggregation[33] in their study. Adiponectin levels were elevated as an endothelial damage marker.…”
