Association between homocysteine and obesity: A meta‐analysis

Abstract: According to previous studies of obesity, we found that the association between homocysteine concentrations and obesity was reported controversially. Thus, we carried out this meta-analysis to investigate this association. We searched PubMed, The Cochrane library, and EMBASE database for studies that evaluate the relationship between homocysteine concentrations and obesity from inception to March, 2019. The quality of all included studies was assessed by the Newcastle Ottawa Scale (NOS) and the Agency for Heal… Show more

“…Because of the physiological decline of renal function in HCY clearance, the plasma HCY level gradually increases with age 28 . Wang J et al conducted a meta‐analysis to showed the HCY levels in obese patients is significantly higher than that in non‐obese patients 29 . This is consistent with our results.…”

“…The stimulus site was Fp2, which corresponds to the right OFC according to the 10–20 International EEG localization system. 30 The participant’s resting motor threshold (RMT) was determined before the first treatment. The RMT was measured as the lowest stimulus intensity capable of eliciting at least 5 motor responses with amplitude of at least 50 µV in a series of 10 consecutive trials of single-pulse TMS in the relaxed abductor pollicis brevis muscle.…”

“…It leads to vascular dysfunction, resulting in hypertension and vascular disease, which is an independent risk factor for atherosclerosis and is closely related to the occurrence of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases. Epidemiological studies have also proved [ 18 ] that the incidence of cardiovascular events in hypertensive patients with HHcy is about 5 times higher than that in pure hypertensive patients [ 18 ]. Men with H-type hypertension had an approximately 12-fold increased risk of cardiovascular events and women with H-type hypertension had an approximately 28-fold increased risk of cardiovascular events.…”
