Association of C3953T transition in interleukin gene with idiopathic male infertility in an Iranian population

Abstract: In this study we investigate the association of C3953T transition single nucleotide polymorphism in the fifth exon of the interleukin 1β gene with idiopathic male infertility. In a case-control study, blood samples were collected from 230 fertile and 207 infertile men who referred to the Kashan IVF centre. Genotypes of samples at the C3953T location were determined by polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism. The data showed a significant association of TT genotype (OR = 2.49, 95%CI =… Show more

“…Genetic polymorphisms can alter gene expression, RNA structure and/or protein function depending on their gene location (Karimian & Hosseinzadeh Colagar, ; Mazaheri, Karimian, Behjati, Raygan, & Colagar, ; Zamani‐Badi, Karimian, Azami‐Tameh, & Nikzad, ). While in vitro and in vivo analyses are useful for detecting the effects of polymorphisms on molecular aspects of the origin gene, they are costly and time consuming.…”

“…Genetic variations based on their positions in a gene could alter the gene function (Salimi et al, 2017;Nejati et al, 2018). The SNPs on the promoter of a gene may alter the gene expression however the SNPs in the intron regions could alter the production of mature mRNA by interfering with the splicing process (Mobasseri et al, 2019;Zamani-Badi et al, 2019). But, the missense mutations could alter the structure and function of proteins (Noureddini et al, 2018;Bafrani et al, 2019) what may be true for GSTP1-Ile105Val genetic variation.…”

“…According to our previous studies and to clarify the molecular aspects of Arg399Gln substitution on the XRCC1 protein, we used bioinformatics tools . In silico analysis provides a time‐ and cost‐consuming way of analyzing coding and non‐coding SNPs . Our bioinformatics analysis indicated that the Arg399Gln polymorphism is a damaging variation.…”
