“…Our results suggest that chronic opioid use is at least as common in LTx recipients as in abdominal transplant recipients, according to recent reports. Particularly, 33% of liver transplant recipients received opioid therapy prior to transplantation, while 11% of kidney transplant recipients continued to receive chronic opioid therapy for pain 1 year after transplant . Medications such as acetaminophen and nonsteroidal anti‐inflammatory drugs are relatively contraindicated in liver and kidney transplant recipients, which may have led providers to prescribe opioids more often in those cohorts .…”
