Association of Subjective Quality and Quantity of Sleep with Quality of Life among a General Population

Abstract: This study aimed to determine whether both subjective sleep quality and sleep duration are directly associated with quality of life (QOL), as well as indirectly associated with QOL through insomnia symptoms. Individuals aged 20–69 years without mental illness (n = 9305) were enrolled in this web-based cross-sectional survey. The Short Form-8 was used to assess physical and mental QOL. “…Nevertheless, our finding of a link between mental health and OSA is in line with the study of Matsui et al (2021). Using results of the self‐administered Short‐Form 8 (SF‐8) and Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI), they detected a relation between decreased mental life quality and subjective shorter sleep duration and impaired sleep quality (Matsui et al, 2021). It should be noted that differences in age, sex, BMI, presence of comorbidities, as well as the patient's environment or the setting might influence the questionnaire results.…”

“…Sleep is a fundamental biological process that has long been considered a key determinant of human health and performance, as well as quality of life [1,2]. Poor sleep quality and sleep disturbances have been associated with the onset and development of several mental disorders [3,4,5], such as depression [6,7,8], schizophrenia [9,10], bipolar disorder [11,12], and suicidal risk increase [13,14,15].…”
