Association study and expression analysis of olfactomedin like 3 gene related to meat quality, carcass characteristics, retail meat cut, and fatty acid composition in sheep

Abstract: Objective: The objective of this study was to identify polymorphism in olfactomedin like 3 (OLFML3) gene, and association analysis with meat quality, carcass characteristics, retail meat cut, and fatty acid composition in sheep, and expression quantification of OLFML3 gene in phenotypically divergent sheep. Methods: A total of 328 rams at the age of 10 to 12 months with an average body weight of 26.13 kg were used. A novel polymorphism was identified using high-throughput sequencing in sheep and genotyping of O… Show more

“…The association analysis of CFHR5 gene polymorphism and breed showed a significant association (P<0.05) fatty acid composition with tridecanoic acid (C13) i n J S and myristoleinic acid (C14:1) in BCS. The results of this study were consistent with a previous study by Harahap et al (2021), Munyaneza et al (2019), andListyarini et al (2022) with different genes named HSD17β13, BHMT, and OLFML3 respectively. Fatty acids that show significance were miristoleic acid (C14:1), ginkgoic acid (C17:1), tridecanoic acid (C13:0), and heptadecanoic acid (C17:0).…”

“…The prospect of sheep farming in Indonesia has the potential to be developed because in addition to meeting domestic demand it also has the opportunity to become an export commodity (Falahudin and Imanudin, 2018). Popular Indonesian breeds in the country and notable breeds include Javanese Fat-Tail sheep (JFTS), Javanese Thin-Tail sheep (JTTS) and Jonggol Sheep (JS) (Listyarini et al, 2022). Javanese Fat-Tail sheep (JFTS) are white, hornless, and is a predominant breed in East Java, whereas JTTS are small and generally white breed predominant in West Java.…”
