“…Zhang et al performed a longitudinal cohort study to explore the relationship between serum UA levels and MetS in Chinese Han urban male population and found serum UA might occur as an important risk factor of MetS [19]. The same results were found in middle-aged Korean men [20] and European individuals [21]. Hyperuricemic animal model caused by fructose-rich diet could induce the components of MetS [22].…”

“…As we know, there is a sex difference in UA level, women usually have a lower UA level than men. Several previous studies have demonstrated that higher UA levels were significantly related with the development of hypertension and metabolic syndrome in women than those in men202829. This could play a part in the observed sex difference in the relationship between UA and acute ischemic stroke because higher uric acid concentrations are associated with these stroke risk factors, which in turn might offset the potential neuroprotective effects of uric acid.…”

“…Although the results were controversy in the previous literature, accumulating evidences indicated that elevated level of sUA was significantly associated with the development and the adverse outcomes of hypertension and MetS [2628]. Therefore, it was not surprise results that the remission rates of NAFLD were not different between the groups of lowest and highest quartile of sUA among the NAFLD males with hypertension, or those with higher level of TC and TG.…”
