Asteroseismology of KIC 11754974: a high-amplitude SX Phe pulsator in a 343-d binary system

Abstract: The candidate SX Phe star KIC 11754974 shows a remarkably high number of combination frequencies in the Fourier amplitude spectrum: 123 of the 166 frequencies in our multi-frequency fit are linear combinations of independent modes. Predictable patterns in frequency spacings are seen in the Fourier transform of the light curve. We present an analysis of 180 d of short-cadence Kepler photometry and of new spectroscopic data for this evolved, late A-type star. We infer from the1150-d, long-cadence light curve, an… Show more

“…Unlike the traditional O-C (observed minus calculated) method, PM uses all of the data -not just the pulsation maxima -and is particularly suited to multimode pulsators. The validity of FM and PM has been confirmed with known binaries ( [15], [16]). …”

“…Wu 2001 andMontgomery 2005). Combination frequencies dominate the amplitude spectra of some δ Sct stars, for example KIC 11754974 (Murphy et al 2013) and KIC 8054146 (Breger et al 2012;Breger & Montgomery 2014), where the astrophysical implications and uses of the combination frequencies are more uncertain than for white dwarf stars.…”

“…Murphy et al 2013), (b) the continuous monitoring of the targets, that eliminates the effect of alias in frequencies detections (Breger 2000), and (c) the relatively high time resolution of the short-cadence data (∼ 1 min). It should to be noted that the long-cadence data (i.e.…”
