The growing pressure to increase food production (especially under capitalist market conditions) has generated the intensification of production in animal agriculture. This has brought on an inevitable specialisation (pork, beef and dairy production) due to the strong economic rationale in factory farming. Intensive animal agriculture, however, has created various socio-ecological risks (Okamoto et al., 2019) and consumer concerns. Veterinary expertise has a vital role in managing these risks and concerns through animal health and food safety regulations, inspection, standardisation and
