Attendance management system

Abstract: In today's era regardless of the field of study or preference for defining data (quantitative, qualitative), accurate data collection is essential for maintaining the integrity of research. Selection of appropriate method and the device used for data acquisition reduces chances of errors occurring. Proposed system has a small handy hardware, a remote server and software components for acquisition of data manually or from sensors electronically. It could be used in doing survey's, closed loop control monitoring… Show more

“…And in terms of attendance management systems or attendance methods using technology, embedded systems along with various sensors are used. A design and framework for taking attendance in schools and colleges using AVR ATMEGA16 of ATMEL a low power CMOS 8-bit microcontroller as the handheld client and the Raspberry Pi as the server was presented by Shailendra et al [16]. The system architecture uses the raspberry pi as the main server while the ATMEGA powered handheld device with Xbee in every class like a zonal model [17] (Figure 12).…”

“…It is a time consuming process to key in attendance information into the computer. Shailendra et al [1] developed a handheld device with which a teacher can record attendance information while checking attendance. Shoewu et al [2] developed a fingerprint-recognition-based attendance management system.…”

“…This system made provisions for each student's RFID card as well as their respective fingerprint as the valid means of verification and authentication. Shailendra et al [23] developed a cloud-based attendance management system, deplorable by academic institutions, for taking the record of attendance of faculty members. The application allows teachers to mark and edit student's attendance and also to add marks in the system database for future retrieval.…”
