“…These findings imply the unique anti-oxidative effect of butyrate. In fact, butyrate beneficially influences oxidative stress in the colon of healthy humans [38], [39], in addition to alleviating oxidative stress induced by lipopolysaccharide in the intestinal cells [40] or streptozotocin diabetic rats [41], by changing the number of genes that is involved in radical scavenging [33], [39].…”

“…Analysis of serum homocysteine concentration was conducted on 1 st day of the study before L-methionine treatment and on the 52 nd day of the study before exposure on the Morris water maze. Behavioral and other assessments were done on the 52 nd day of L-methionine treatment [3]. HPLC system was additionally used to measure levels of homocysteine.…”

“…Dementia of vascular origin (VaD) has gained much attention in the past years for being the second most common type of dementia after Alzheimer's disease (AD) [2,3]. It was estimated that 35.6 million people lived with dementia worldwide in 2010, with numbers expected to almost double every 20 years, to 65.7 million in 2030 and 115.4 million in 2050 [4].…”

“…Butyrate is the primary energy source for the colonic epithelium and is recognized for numerous health-promoting benefits (Donohoe et al, 2011;Grootaert et al, 2011;Hu et al, 2010;Rawluszko et al, 2011;Sharma and Singh, 2011). Butyrateproducing taxa, such as Butyrivibrio spp.…”
