Safety is one of the key aspects of the successful transport of cargo. In the case of road transport, the dynamics of a vehicle during normal events such as braking, steering, and evasive maneuver are variable in different places in the vehicle. Several manufacturers provide different dataloggers with acceleration sensors, but the results are not comparable due to different sensor parameters, measurement ranges, sampling frequencies, data filtration, and evaluation of different periods of acceleration. The position of the sensor in the loading area is also important. The accelerations are not the same at all points in the vehicle. The article deals with the measurement of these dynamic events with MEMS sensors on selected points of a vehicle loaded with cargo and with changes in dynamics after certain events that could occur during regular road transport of cargo to analyze the possibilities for monitoring accelerations and the related forces acting on the cargo during transport. The article uses evaluation times of 80, 300, and 1000 ms for accelerations. With the measured values, it is possible to determine the places with a higher risk of cargo damage and not only to adjust the packaging and securing of the cargo, but also to modify the transport routes. Concerning the purposes of securing the cargo in relation to EN 12195-1 and the minimum values of forces for securing the cargo, we focused primarily on the places where the acceleration of 0.5 g was exceeded when analyzing the monitored route. There were 32 of these points in total, all of which were measured by a sensor located at the rear of the semi-trailer. In 31 cases, the limit of 0.5 g was exceeded for an 80-ms evaluation time, and in one case, the value of 0.51 g was reached in the transverse direction for a 300-ms evaluation time.

This paper describes a decision support system to mitigate the danger that carbon monoxide pose via internet-based measurement. This system is required because in high concentration above threshold, carbon monoxide can trigger many diseases and even cause death. However, a system that is capable of detection and making online decision in real-time against that threat is not yet available. Therefore, decisions on carbon monoxide threat are often taken too late as they are made manually with expert analysis. This research proposes the design of a sensor node composed of a gas sensor, a microcontroller, a WIFI router, and an Internet modem to acquire data and communicate them via the internet. The pollution index value and rule-based algorithm, which are used to determine carbon monoxide gas pollution categories in the web server program, are in accordance to data stated in the Indonesia Air Pollutant Index. An expert system programming based on expert knowledge is then used to make decision on pollution. Results show that the sensor node built is capable of sending data online to the cloud station, with Root Mean Square Error of 3.46 µg/m 2 and relative error of 0.78% for a measurement range of 0-440 µg/m 2. This system is also capable of sending data fast with a transfer rate of 764 milliseconds. Further testing also revealed that using expert system in cloud computing results in speedy warning of carbon monoxide threat, at 15.6 seconds.

In today’s modern infrastructure, roundabouts are found in almost every city, which makes them impossible to avoid. Roundabouts with a radius of up to 15 m generate high accelerations even when traveling at average speeds. For this reason, it is essential to analyze the events that occur when passing through such roundabouts. In the research, we have performed a complex analysis of the accelerations on the x, y and z-axis for five passes through five different roundabouts, with a focus on the vehicle dynamics. This helped us to understand how the vehicle behaves when crossing a roundabout, as well as what accelerations and forces are affecting the cargo. Therefore, the paper is comparing data from two sensors that were mounted on various parts of the vehicle. The first sensor was mounted on the dashboard and the second on the roof of the vehicle. What is more, we found that the Y-axis accelerations, which are the most important for the analysis of vehicle dynamics in roundabouts, are not affected by the change in sensor location. In addition, we performed an acceleration calculation based on the data recorded from the sensor and radius, which can serve as a basis for further research.
