Autotransplantation of Mandibular Third Molar: A Case Report

Abstract: Autogenous transplantation is a feasible, fast, and economical option for the treatment of nonsalvageable teeth when a suitable donor tooth is available. This paper presents successful autotransplantation of a mature mandibular left third molar (38) without anatomical variances is used to replace a mandibular left second molar (37). The mandibular second molar was nonrestorable due to extensive root caries and resorption of distal root. After extraction of mandibular second and third molars, root canal therapy… Show more

“…A transplantation technique for molars was described in 1956, and until today the general guidelines of this surgical technique are practically the same. [ 9 ] Recent development like cone beam computed tomography, two stage transplantation and three-dimensional prototyping have enabled the fabrication of accurate surgical templates which can be used to prepare the recipient site immediately prior to transplantation resulting in decreased extra oral time and improved prognosis. [ 10 ]…”

“…Podemos classificar os transplantes dentários em relação ao doador/receptor e, também, ao nível de formação radicular, sendo o ideal para a técnica de dois terços a três quartos da raiz formada. Ainda, a classificação pode ser pelo tipo de transplante, como homógeno, autógeno ou heterógeno 3,4 .…”
