Available Transfer Capability Calculation Constrained with Small-Signal Stability Based on Adaptive Gradient Sampling

Abstract: Due to the nonsmoothness of the small-signal stability constraint, calculating the available transfer capability (ATC) limited by small-signal stability rigorously through the nonlinear programming is quite difficult. To tackle this challenge, this paper proposes a sequential quadratic programming (SQP) method combined with gradient sampling (GS) in a dual formulation. The highlighted feature is the sample size of the gradient changes dynamically in every iteration, yielding an adaptive gradient sampling (AGS)… Show more

“…Cross-validation (CV)-based techniques utilize leave-one-out CV errors to estimate prediction errors, evaluating the credibility of the surrogate model to some extent [171]. Gradient-based methods select the point with the maximal gradient for updating, aiming to improve the accuracy in these high-gradient regions [172]. Query-by-committeebased strategies assert that the point at which all committee members (several competing surrogate models) have maximal divergence are selected for supplement points [173].…”

“…In [16], the ATC evaluation was modelled as a nonlinear OPF problem, which adopts an iterative decompositioncoordination approach based on the constrained augmented Lagrangian method. In addition to static security constraints, the small-signal stability constraint is considered in the ATC evaluation [17]. Considering the rigorously smallsignal stability model is complex, this study proposed a sequential quadratic programming method combined with gradient sampling (GS).…”
