Avaliação sorológica para detecção de anticorpos anti-Leishmania em cães e gatos no bairro de Santa Rita de Cássia, Município de Barra Mansa, Estado do Rio de Janeiro

Abstract: From a canine case of american cutaneous leishmaniasis in the locality of Santa Rita de Cássia, municipality of Barra Mansa, Rio de Janeiro, a serological survey was performed on 177 dogs and 43 cats. Evaluation of the canine serum samples showed that 10% had a positive reaction in the indirect immunofluorescence test and 10.7% in the enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. Among the feline serum samples tested, none of the animals had a positive reaction in the indirect immunofluorescence test and only one (2.4%) … Show more

“…Moreover, a poor correlation of the Kappa coefficient was observed among the techniques of direct detection, such as cytology and immunohistochemistry, and indirect detection, such as RIFI and ELISA (VIDES et al, 2011;SOBRINHO et al, 2012). In general, ELISA showed higher sensitivity when compared to RIFI (VIDES et al, 2011;SOBRINHO et al, 2012), confirming the findings of studies performed in other regions (FIGUEIREDO et al, 2009). …”

“…present exclusively skin changes. Moreover, studies used mainly cytology or antibody detection as diagnostic techniques, which were restricted to identify the parasite genus (SOUZA et al, 2005(SOUZA et al, , 2009FIGUEIREDO et al, 2009;SILVEIRA NETO et al, 2011). Currently, feline leishmaniasis is assessed by PCR followed by sequencing and genetic alignment, a diagnostic tool that facilitates the identification of the protozoan species.…”

“…It is important to highlight that sensitivity and specificity estimates of these serological methods in cats unfortunately were rarely evaluated [4, 11]. However, ELISA and WB tests were reported to be more sensitive than IFAT [10, 1315]. Variation in sensitivity and specificity is mainly attributable to differences among the reference population studied and sampling strategies that are used for the validation procedure [16].…”

“…A LV é uma zoonose parasitária relatada em mais de 88 países (TOZ et al, 2009), acometendo o homem e diversas espécies de mamíferos silvestres e domésticos, provocando variadas manifestações clínicas (FIGUEIREDO et al, 2009). Ela é ocasionada por protozoários da família Trypanossomatidade, os quais, uma vez dentro do organismo dos mamíferos, apresentam tropismo pelo sistema mononuclear fagociário (NEVES, 2005).…”
