AwareCon: Situation Aware Context Communication

Abstract: Abstract. Ubicomp environments impose tough constraints on networks, including immediate communication, low energy consumption, minimal maintenance and administration. With the AwareCon network, we address these challenges by prescribing an integrated architecture that differs from classical networking by featuring an awareness of the surrounding situation and context. In various settings, where AwareCon was implemented on tiny battery driven devices, we show that applications and usability of devices benefit … Show more

“…Although the electronic including the battery on the clip is less than half of the overall weight ( We did not have the time to look deeply into battery life time of the AAA battery supplying the DigiClip device. However, as a result of our experiences with the Chair appliance in the AwareOffice [3] an operational lifetime for about one year should also be possible for the DigiClip device since both systems share many of the hardware and software components. Also, the general behavior of the application on the DigiClip device is similar to the Chair appliance.…”

“…Mobile Agent (MA) system [2] can cope with situationaware applications [3] [4], e.g., habitat monitoring and medical care, in WSNs [5] [6]. As a special kind of software, MA migrates among network nodes to carry out task(s) autonomously, e.g., collecting sensory data from a number of source nodes, and flexibly to handle network dynamics, in order to achieve the specific requirements of the agent dispatcher (i.e., the sink node).…”

“…al [3] reports on a networking protocol stack for context communication, and suggests to consider situational context in order to improve its efficiency. Thereby, contexts such as the battery level, the current processor load, and the link quality serve as indicators for adapting networking parameters.…”
