B-Vitamin and Choline Supplementation Changes the Ischemic Brain

Abstract: Administration of BDNF in rats has also been reported to reduce the expression of tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-α), an inflammatory molecule, while increasing levels of anti-inflammatory cytokines. This suggests that BDNF may reduce ischemic damage by reducing inflammation (Jiang et al., 2011). Finally, BDNF can inhibit neurotoxicity induced by glutamate in cultured cortical neurons by accumulating in dendrites to activate the tyrosine ki-B-Vitamin and Choline Supplementation Changes the Ischemic Brain

“…In Mthfr +/− and BTBR mice choline was shown to reduce the risk of developing autistic-like behavior 19 , 20 . However, in the last couple of years, Jadavji et al 83 85 tested a combined supplementary diet including choline given at adulthood for its potential to protect or reduce impairment caused by ischemic damage. They report promising results such as improved motor function, reduced blood homocysteine levels, and elevated brain BDNF levels.…”
