Backlash Error Measurement and Compensation on the Vertical Machining Center

Abstract: The position errors in the axis direction of a vertical machine center have been measured by means of the VM101 linear encored measurement system. The character of the backlash error is discussed; results show that the backlash error has great influence on the position error. The position accuracy is enhanced after the backlash errors are compensated

“…Between the dynamic loads that affect the MT backlash, dynamic forces and thermo-mechanical loads can be highlighted: Backlash: Backlash error is a position dependant error affecting the contouring accuracy. When the axis changes direction from one side to the other, there is a lag before the table starts moving again, that would cause position error- backlash error [ 110 ]. Modelling it is challenging, due to multiple sources and complex behaviour.…”

“…When the is groove cut with a vortex method, the dimension D and its circumferential accuracy have special meanings, both technological and functional considerations. Therefore, for the development of an efficient process, cutting a groove with a vortex method and the full use of the technological capabilities of the method, the derivation of the mathematical model of the groove diameter and its analysis are of paramount importance [22][23][24]. Figure 3 shows a diagram of the formation of the diameter of the inner circumference of the groove.…”

“…The basis for the effective organization of any technological operation is the development and management of the theoretical basis for ensuring the quality of processing and productivity [21,22]. The features of the kinematic communications between the elements of the technological system play an important role, to ensure them [3,[22][23][24][25]. Therefore, the study of the theoretical basis of the formation of accuracy when cutting a groove vortex method is an urgent task.…”
