“…The detailed glass preparation and crystallization kinetic behavior of five compositions (G0-G4) close to BaSiO 3 -BaB 2 O 4 eutectic compound were accomplished and reported in our previous work. 33 Two crystalline phases, BaSiO 3 (BS) and BaAl 2 Si 2 O 8 (H), might grow in the glasses and appear very an-isotropic shapes after a few hundred hours annealing at the temperatures between 650 and 800 • C. The glass-ceramics appeared strong residual stresses and poor structural integrity. Therefore, new formulae were developed with an appropriate glass transition temperature (T g ), slightly lower than the highest operation temperature, matched CTE to YSZ electrolyte, good chemical stability and acceptable electric resistivity, and good wettability with the parts being sealed.…”

“…Alkali metal oxides (Na 2 O and K 2 O) reduce the viscosity, improve the wettability and enhance the CTE of glass, however, they are not the best choice due to their high chemical reactivity and low electrical resistivity . Among alkaline earth metals oxides, barium oxide (BaO) has been intensively used in the past . The addition of BaO increases the CTE and reduces the glass transition temperature, but has various disadvantages, ie it reacts with Cr present in the steel interconnect and forms barium chromate, a high CTE phase that can cause delamination at the sealant/interconnect interface due to stress generation .…”
