Baru Pulp (Dipteryx alata Vogel): Fruit from the Brazilian Savanna Protects against Oxidative Stress and Increases the Life Expectancy of Caenorhabditis elegans via SOD-3 and DAF-16

Abstract: Fruits are sources of bioactive compounds that are responsible for several biological activities. Therefore, this study aimed to identify the chemical composition of the pulp of the Brazilian Savanna fruit Dipteryx alata; evaluate its toxic effects, influence on the life expectancy of the nematode Caenorhabditis elegans, and its antioxidant activities in vitro and in vivo; and describe the mechanisms involved. The chemical compounds identified include phenols, terpenes, fatty acid derivatives, vitamins, and a … Show more

“…In addition, the TJ375 strain was exposed or not to 37 °C for 2 h and recovered for 2–3 h at 20 °C. Subsequently, 10 nematodes in each experimental and control group were randomly selected to be anesthetized with 1mM hydrochloride levamisole [ 68 ] and were fixed on a 2% agarose pad. All the GFP fluorescence assays were performed with the filter (excitation wavelength 485 nm, emission wavelength 535 nm) and an Axio Scrope A1 fluorescence microscope (Carl Zeiss AG, Jena, Germany) connected to Zen Blue Software’s AxioCam 503 color digital camera for image acquisition and analysis, and the relative fluorescence intensity of the entire body was determined using ImageJ software.…”
