Purpose The present study investigated the role of β-hCG in predicting reproductive outcomes and established optimal β-hCG cutoff values in women undergoing cleavage embryo transfer. Methods The patients were transferred with fresh or frozen-thawed embryos and had serum β-hCG levels tested on the 14th day post-embryo transfer. Serum β-hCG levels were compared between different groups. Different cutoff values of β-hCG were established and used to divide the patients into different groups. Reproductive outcomes between groups based on β-hCG levels were compared. Results Significant discrepancies in general characteristics were observed in the subgroups. The cutoff values of β-hCG for predicting the presence/absence of pregnancy, biochemical pregnancy/clinical pregnancy, presence/absence of adverse pregnancy outcomes, and singleton/twin live birth in the cleavage groups were 89.6, 241.1, 585.9, and 981.1 mIU/L, respectively. Biochemical pregnancy rates and adverse pregnancy outcome rates significantly decreased from the low β-hCG group to the higher β-hCG group in sequence. Significantly higher full-term live birth rates were observed in the highest β-hCG group (P < 0.001). Conclusion Serum β-hCG levels were strongly associated with reproductive outcomes. However, the interpretation of β-hCG levels must consider the number and quality of embryos and transfer protocols. When β-hCG was tested on a fixed day post-ET, different cutoff values were required for the prediction of early clinical outcomes. The association between β-hCG and obstetric outcomes must be investigated.

Background The exact incidence of infantile haemangiomas (IH) in the Chinese population is still unknown. A positive family history of IH was considered as a risk factor for the development of IH.Objectives This study aims to investigate the incidence of IH in the Chinese population and the mechanism of family history increases the risk for IH development.Methods A total of 2489 women and their newborns were enrolled in the prospective study. All newborns were followed up for 12 months to determine whether they developed IH. In addition, 213 IH probands and their 174 siblings were enrolled in the study. The incidence of IH in siblings of the IH probands was investigated. Information regarding risk factors for IH and demographic data were collected on all children.Results Of the 2572 newborns, 58 IH were identified in 56 (2.2%) newborns. The majority of IH were located on the trunk (46.6%). Siblings of the IH probands were at increased risk for the development of IH (P = 0.024, relative risk 2.451), and the occurrence of prenatal risk factors for IH(P = 0.003) compared with the general population.Conclusions Our study showed that the incidence of IH is 2.2% in the Chinese population. Siblings of the individuals with IH were at increased risk for the development of IH may be related to the family clustering of prenatal risk factors for IH. Further exploration of the mechanisms and common features of these prenatal risk factors may help to disclose the origin and pathogenesis of IH.

Background This observational study aimed to compare the potential application of thromboelastography (TEG) in diagnosing women with normal pregnancy (NP) and women with threatened abortion (TA), missed abortion (MA), embryo arrest (EA), fetal death (FD), history of abnormal pregnancy (HAP), and antiphospholipid antibody syndrome (AA). Methods According to the relevant clinical criteria, patients were divided into groups, and their blood samples were subjected to TEG. Next, the parameters R, K, α‐angle, MA, LY‐30, G, and coagulation index (CI) were analyzed. Partial correlation analysis was used to analyze correlation between groups of data. LSD‐t test and Dunnett's T3 test were used to analyze continuous variables. Ordinal categorical variables were compared using ordinal logistic regression analysis and estimate odds ratio of risk factors. A receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve was constructed to detect the ability of TEG to recognize various parameters, and areas under the curve were compared using Delong's test for diagnosing pregnancy‐related diseases. Results MA had a negative effect on the MA parameter in TEG; EA had a negative effect on the MA and G parameters; HAP had a negative effect on the CI parameter and a positive effect on the R parameter; AA had a negative effect on the CI parameter. Compared with that of the NP group, the G of the EA ( p = 0.014) group and the CI of the TA ( p = 0.036) MA ( p = 0.08) EA ( p = 0.026) HAP ( p = 0.000004) and AA ( p = 0.002) groups were reduced. In the ordinal logistic regression analysis, compared with that of the NP group, the high R value of the HAP group accounted for more than that of the NP group (OR = 48.76, p = 0.001); the high K value of the AA group accounted for more than that of the NP group (OR = 17.00, p = 0.023); the angle value distributions of the TA and AA groups were different from that of the NP group (OR = 3.30, p = 0.039; OR = 0.14, p = 0.029); the low MA value of the MA, EA, and HAP groups accounted for more than that of the NP group (OR = 0.16, p = 0.03; OR = 0.26, p = 0.005; OR = 0.11, p = 0.008); and the low CI value of the HAP group accounted for more than that of the NP group (OR = 0.09, p = 0.005). In the ROC analysis, there were no significant differences in the TEG parameters of pregnant women belonging to the NP and TA, NP and MA, NP and EA, NP and FD, NP and HAP, and NP and AA groups ( p > 0.05).
