BDI Agent Programming in AgentSpeak Using Jason

Abstract: Abstract. This paper is based on the tutorial given as part of the tutorial programme of CLIMA-VI. The tutorial aimed at giving an overview of the various features available in Jason, a multi-agent systems development platform that is based on an interpreter for an extended version of AgentSpeak. The BDI architecture is the best known and most studied architecture for cognitive agents, and AgentSpeak is an elegant, logic-based programming language inspired by the BDI architecture.

“…Indeed, several methodologies for designing MASs have been discussed in the literature [1][2][3][4]6,7] and, correspondingly, different agent platforms [5,[8][9][10][11] have been proposed as technological means for practically implementing distributed applications. As discussed in Section 2, most of these design methodologies and platforms adopt the organizational metaphor as a way for distributing and coordinating agents.…”

“…It is built on the top of three platforms, namely Jason [8] for programming agents, CArtAgO [9] for programming environments, and Moise [58] for programming organizations. More specifically, Jason is a platform for agent development based on the language AgentSpeak [59].…”

“…Its threshold-based plan selection approach is further extended in [15] by adding bias and randomness to all applicable plans. In [16] a tool connecting an MAS development framework (Jason [17]) with a BN constructor is developed. These approaches essentially focus on selecting plans based on the likelihood of their contexts.…”
