Beach Erosion on Golden Beach in South Tiwan

Abstract: Golden Beach in south Taiwan is widely known and has been attracting many beachgoers. In recent years, this beach has been eroded and measures to restore the sandy beach are required. The cause of the beach erosion was investigated on the basis of bathymetric survey data. In the study area, northward longshore sand transport, which was induced by the wave-sheltering effect of Anping Harbor, prevails, and the rate of transport was estimated to be 1.25×10 5 m 3 /yr with the conditions of the depth of closure (h … Show more

“…Assuming that a constant longshore sand is supplied through the north groin 820 m north of the fishing port breakwater, and all the sand supplied is deposited north of the breakwater, longshore sand transport at this port can be estimated from the change in sand volume; the change in foreshore area between August 21, 2009 and March 1, 2012 becomes approximately 4.7×10 4 m 2 . Uda et al 3) estimated the characteristic height of beach changes near Anping Harbor 26 km south of the study area to be 9.2 m, by which the shoreline changes can be transformed into the change in the sectional area of the beach. Because of the proximity of the study area to Anping Harbor, this characteristic height of beach changes estimated at Anping Harbor can be used.…”
