Beacon-less video streaming management for VANETs based on QoE and link-quality

Abstract: Real-time video dissemination over Vehicular Ad hoc Networks (VANETs) is fundamental for many services, e.g., emergency video delivery, road-side video surveillance, and advertisement broadcasting. These applications deal with several challenges due to strict video quality level requirements and highly dynamic topologies. To handle these challenges, geographic receiver-based beacon-less approaches have been proposed as a suitable solution for forwarding video flows in VANETs. In general, the routing decisions … Show more

“…A lower CW means a vehicle closer to the destination, increasing the probability to reach the destination, while reducing the number of hops. Quadros [28] computed the CW based on video parameters, location, and QoE information. However, a VANET has a dynamic network topology with short contact time, which worsens the QoE of videos delivered via those protocols, due to frequent disconnections.…”

“…In this context, it becomes important to ensure that the video-quality level is maximum with any possible measures, including efficient techniques used, thus the user experience, which is the subjective acceptability could be tremendously improved. 2 Among the modern video service requirements, instant video communication (IVC) is the most attracted research direction because it meets the users' multimedia demands and experience. However, the response to video packet losses and distortions in IVC service is inherently unlike other video service because of the features of instant requirements and real-time streaming perturbations.…”
