BeaLib: A Beacon Enabled Smart Library System

Abstract: Nowadays, Global Positioning Systems (GPS) receivers are used for outdoor navigation, which are the part of recent smartphones and tablet devices. However, GPS is not suitable for indoor navigations due to its signal limitations which are blocked by ceiling and walls. Indoor navigation can be achieved through a mobile phone using a recent technology that utilizes Bluetooth, namely beacons. Beacons are small transmitters, run on Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) technology, used as a point of reference for mobile devi… Show more

“…Sensor-based library facility with the tracing system allows users to identify different sections and guide users in stack areas to quickly pinpoint a document. As GPS is inapplicable in indoor areas, Uttarwar and Chong (2017) spoke about BeaLib – a Bluetooth-enabled indoor navigation technique to guide users on the campus and inside the library to a stack area. The BeaLib guides users to a specific rack to track down a resource of need based on the proximity sensor without any human intervention, as used in the Aukland University of Technology Library.…”
