“…For example, one of the most common behavioral referral concerns reported by parents is noncompliance (Lipschultz & Wilder, 2017; Losinski et al., 2017). This is not surprising given the importance of compliance across home and school environments.…”

“…In the school setting, compliance is associated with improved academic outcomes and positive social interactions (Austin & Agar, 2005; Kalb & Loeber, 2003). Several antecedent‐based interventions are effective for improving compliance, including effective instructional delivery (EID; Lipschultz & Wilder, 2017). EID involves a stepwise process of the parent being in close proximity to the child, obtaining eye contact, praising eye contact, giving a descriptive instruction as a directive, waiting 5–10 s for the child to respond, and praising compliance (LaBrot et al., 2018; Mandal et al., 2000).…”

“…The purpose of the current investigation is to examine the clinical utility of conducting a COA of social preferences to decrease latency to comply with task requests performed by adolescents with dual diagnosis. Noncompliance to task demands, as measured by latency to comply, presents a significant problem for children and their caregivers (Kalb & Loeber, ; Lipschultz & Wilder, ). Berg et al's () results suggest that applying the results of a COA to identify reinforcers to increase compliance with performing daily living skills would be effective.…”
