“…The crystal of this complex is related to that of the complex formed by tert-butyl acetoacetate with Ni II (Dö hring et al, 1997). Very similar complexes of Mg II , but with crystallographic C 3i symmetry, have been reported with ethyl acetoacetate (Petrov et al, 1992) and with adamantan-1-yl acetoacetate . A common feature of these complexes is that the metal bonds to the carbonyl groups are shorter then those to the bridging enolate groups, whereas in mononuclear complexes an opposite trend has been found (Barclay & Cooper, 1965;Hall et al, 1966;Fawcett et al, 1997;Koval, Rusanov et al, 2009).…”

“…Because of the smaller size Mg(thd) 2 forms only a dimer. Sterically less demanding β-diketonato ligands such as acetylacetonato or ethylacetoacetato form trimeric Mg complexes when there is no other molecules capable to coordinate. , Ethanol is capable of breaking the [Mg 2 (thd) 4 ] dimer, and a monomeric complex is formed, as proven by the crystal structure of 2 . In the case of Ca, the ethanol adducted β-diketonato complex [Ca 2 (thd) 4 (EtOH) 2 ] is dimer .…”

“…As the metal(II) DBMs possess a deficiency of donors for the metal acceptors, they have a potential to transform into polymeric species by sharing donor sites of DBM ligands. The diversity of metal(II) β-diketonates, including DBMs, is remarkable as monomeric, ,,,,, dimeric, trimeric, ,, tetrameric, and even polymeric entities have been studied in the solid state. Further, equilibria between monomeric and polymeric forms of nickel β-diketonates in solution have been studied, , and both monomeric and trimeric forms were recently reported for a nickel complex with 3-phenyl-substituted acetylacetonate .…”
