Behaviour of reinforced concrete frames rehabilitated with concentric steel bracing

Abstract: The seismic performance of low-rise nonductile reinforced concrete (RC) buildings rehabilitated using concentric steel bracing is investigated. A three-story building was analysed using various ground motion records. The effectiveness of the steel bracing in rehabilitating the three-story building was examined. The effect of the distribution of the steel bracing along the height of the RC frames on the seismic performance of the rehabilitated building was studied. The behaviour of the nonductile RC frame membe… Show more

“…With the development of the concept of incorporating shear links with seismic bracings, researchers and structural engineers have already represented its credible performances compared to standard steel bracings systems. Based on a number of studies, it is clear that this system was developed for both steel and concrete structures [1,2]. Research works are still going on to develop the bracing pattern with or without links.…”

“…Research works are still going on to develop the bracing pattern with or without links. Studies with vertical shear links depict that they provide more lateral stiffness to withstand the seismic force [1]. The bracings are provided not only in regular shaped framed structures but also in irregular shaped framed structures.…”

“…An RC school building was retrofitted using posttensioned rod braces, which resulted in an increased moment capacity, rather than increased ductility [13]. Research has shown that direct connections between the concrete structure and the bracings result in superior structural properties in terms of earthquake resistance [9,[14][15][16][17].…”
