“…By repeated sublimation with small quantities of ammonium chloride, the dichloride forms ammonium chlorotellurite, (NH,),TeCl,, as a greenish-black mass stable in air. 17 Pure metallic chromium may be obtained by reducing chromic oxide at 1500" in perfectly dry hydrogen.18…”

“…Under ambient conditions TeI 2 is an endothermic compound with an enthalpy of formation of Δ H f = +80 kJ mol -1 its existence was denied several times. Straightforward synthesis of tellurium dihalides is achieved by the reduction of the respective tetrahalides with elemental Te according to the reaction TeX 4 + Te → 2TeX 2 . Any thermal treatment like slow cooling or holding the temperature close to the melting points of TeX 2 (which are about 200 °C 7 ) has to be avoided because decomposition into a tetrahalide and elemental Te or a subhalide will occur.…”

“…The immediate impetus for the study of the bismuth system was supplied by G. P. Smith^ in the form of a sugges- preparing tellurium dichloride has been to react stoichio metric amounts of tellurium and chlorine or of tellurium and tellurium tetrachloride (24,25,26). The phase diagram of Damiens (27), however, shows no clear evidence of TeCl2(s) in thQ condensed Te-TeCl^ system.…”
