Beneficial Effects of Apple Vinegar on Hyperglycemia and Hyperlipidemia in Hypercaloric-Fed Rats

Abstract: The main objective of this study is to determine the effects of apple vinegar on the metabolic changes caused by hypercaloric diet in Wistar rats. Apple vinegar was first analyzed to find out the total acidity, the polyphenolic and flavonoid contents, the total antioxidant capacity, and the free radical scavenging activity. In vivo study on adult male and female Wistar rats was conducted by administering a drink containing either 10% D-glucose or water (control) for five weeks. Apple vinegar is administered da… Show more

“…Accordingly, the EC 50 values of CBV1 and CBV2 were significantly higher than those of MV ( p < 0.05), indicating higher antioxidant activity. According to Ousaaid et al, the DPPH value of apple vinegar was higher than that of our result at 0.74 ± 0.154 μL/mL [ 23 ]. As previously reported, immature citrus fruits contain more organic acids, polyphenols, and flavonoids than mature fruits [ 18 ].…”

“…There was an increase in plasma urea levels in the rats that were fed glucose alone but no change in urea levels in ACV treated rats. This demonstrated ACV did not affect kidney function in fact it corrected the urea levels when fed in combination with glucose 29 .…”

“…Antibiotic resistant bacteria can cause complications especially in the gut 28 . In fact, it has been shown that loss of colonization resistance can lead to an increase in vancomycin-resistant E. coli predisposing patients to blood sepsis 29 . Hence, any compound which can amplify the innate immune system could be a formidable antidote for these dreaded resistant organisms.…”
