“…The ethanolic and methanolic extracts of defatted C. sativa seeds were shown to reverse short-term memory impairment and reduce anxiety and depression-like behaviors in a Swiss mouse model for irritable bowel syndrome exposed to various stress tests [ 289 ]. Furthermore, these extracts decreased superoxide dismutase, but increased glutathione peroxidase activity in brain and bowel tissues as well as potentially increasing lipid peroxidation in the bowel.…”

“…Furthermore, these extracts decreased superoxide dismutase, but increased glutathione peroxidase activity in brain and bowel tissues as well as potentially increasing lipid peroxidation in the bowel. The authors concluded that seed extracts could improve performance and mood while exhibiting antioxidant capacity in both brain and bowel tissues [ 289 ]. In a related study, the administration of cold-pressed C. sativa oil was shown to ameliorate impairment of short-term memory, anxiety, and depression in a Swiss mouse zymosan-induced model for irritable bowel syndrome exposed to various stress tests [ 290 ].…”

“…The authors found that CSO intervention caused a significant reduction in MDA levels, as well as increases in SOD and GHP-x levels. 45 The effect of CSO on OS has been examined only in one clinical trial and reported no remarkable changes in urinary prostanoids in patients with IGM. 22 Han et al found that FSO consumption led to a significant reduction in MDA levels and a significant increase of GSH and SOD in mice.…”

“…Madalina defatted seeds harvested in Romania. Also, we previously reported the effect of the Camelina sativa oil obtained from seeds harvested in the same year on the behavioural manifestations and oxidative stress parameters in another mouse model of irritable bowel syndrome [ 39 ].…”

“…Camelina sativa is a flowering plant in the Brassicaceae family, native to northern Europe and central Asia, traditionally cultivated as an oilseed biofuel crop to produce vegetable oil and animal feed [ 28 , 29 ]. The oil extracted from seeds is rich in linolenic acid (C18:3 ω 3, ALA), an essential ω 3 fatty acid ( ω 3FA), whose consumption has been associated with a decreased risk of coronary heart disease and inflammatory diseases [ 30 – 38 ] and some beneficial effects on behavioural manifestations and oxidative stress parameters in a zymosan-induced IBS mouse model [ 39 ]. Most of the therapeutical properties of the Camelina sativa seeds are due to phenolic content, such as sinapine and phytic acid [ 40 ], antioxidants (tocopherols) [ 29 ], flavanols (quercetin) [ 41 ], and glucosinolates [ 42 ].…”
