Flotation is one of the separation techniques that has been used by the mineral industry and its importance has increased due to its better performance in the concentration of low grade ores. Specific chemical reagents are used in flotation in order to promote the hydrophobicity control of minerals dispersed in a pulp, among them, surfactants have been studied with good results. In this study, a substance based on Linear Alkylbenzene Solfonate (LAS), and a concrete admixture based on Policarboxilate--ether (PCE) were tested as reagents in iron ore flotation. The tests were performed in a friable hematite sample, using the microflotation technique. The Yates complete replicated factorial method for three variables and two levels was used in experimental planning. The variables evaluated was pH (9--11); LAS content (1000--5000 g/cm³); and PCE content (100--1000 g/cm³). The best result (84.1% floated) was obtained for combination pH=9, LAS content = 5000 g/cm³ and PCE content = 100 g/cm³

The present work has the objective of investigating the possibility of the reuse of residual amines resulting from the process of reverse flotation of iron ore. Bench ResumoO presente trabalho tem por objetivo investigar a possibilidade de reutilização de aminas residuais provenientes do processo de flotação de minério de ferro. Os testes de flotação em bancada foram realizados em pH 10,5, tendo o amido como depressor dos óxidos de ferro e as aminas Flotigam EDA 3B e F2835 como coletores para a sílica. Cada rejeito desses ensaios foi submetido à separação sólido/líquido através de filtração a vácuo. O líquido contendo amina residual foi reutilizado em um segundo ensaio de flotação, onde foi investigada a dosagem de reagente novo. Utilizando-se a água contendo amina residual, juntamente com quantidades novas dos coletores, observou-se que há a possibilidade de diminuir o consumo desse reagente em até 50%. Foi realizado também teste de dessorção das aminas contidas em rejeitos sólidos, adicionando-se água ao resíduo em diferentes valores de pH e massa do resíduo. Os resultados revelaram que mais de 95 % da amina adicionada pode ser recuperada. Palavras-chave:Flotação reversa, reciclagem, aminas graxas.
