Beschreibung einiger Kulturamöben mariner Herkunft

Abstract: SYNOPSIS. Small amebas are difficult to describe because of the lack of permanent morphological criteria. Investigations from the nuclear division and physiological points of view may be useful, but the study of motion and behaviour under natural conditions gives better results in order to show the natural relationship. Descriptions of four new forms of small marine amebas are given. These species belong to the genera Rugipes, Acanthamoeba, Flabellula and Vahlkampfia.

“…The only other recognized marine species of Acanthamoeba, A. gigantea, was not studied on media of different salt concentration, and some reservation must be held as to whether it is a "brackish" water or ''marine" species. The cyst of A. gigantea had structural features (14) similar to those of A . castellanii, and it would be desirable to re-evaluate the growth of these amoebae experimentally before their designation as "marine" is taxonomically and ecologically acceptable.…”

“…Amoebae of the genus Acanthamoeba form a complex group of so-called "free-living" species which inhabit soil and water (4,11,12,15), plant sap (5, 17), tissue culture cells ( 7 ) , domestic animals ( l o ) , seawater (14), and possibly man ( 8 ) . Furthermore, some species are able to grow on media made with distilled water, or with high salinity seawater on which cysts may lose their diagnostic features (12,13).…”

“…Among trophozoites characteristic of the SEDF strain (Fig. 6) were found individuals identical with Schmoller's (1964) image of Rugipes reniformis, with one trophozoite of P. reniformis presented by Page (1983) and a certain similarity was noticed also with the line drawing of Hyalodiscus actinophorus (currently Cochliopodium actinophorum) by Page (1968). We think that trophozoites of SEDF strain are most similar to those of Flamella described by Michel and Smirnov (1999).…”

“…Page (1983 later unified three genera, Flabellula, Paraflabellula Page et Willumsen, 1983, andFlamella Schaeffer, 1926, within the family Flabellulidae Bovee, 1970. In addition, Flabellula citata Schaeffer, 1926, Paraflabellula reniformis (Schmoller, 1964) and Flamella magnifica Schaeffer, 1926 were designated as the type species of the respective genera. The inclusion of Flamella Schaeffer, 1926 in the Flabellulidae was confirmed by Michel and Smirnov (1999), who amended the generic diagnosis and described two new species (F. aegyptia and F. lacustris).…”
