Abstract: Most investigations of creativity tend to take one of two directions: everyday creativity (also called "little-c"), which can be found in nearly all people, and eminent creativity (also called "Big-C"), which is reserved for the great. In this paper, the authors propose a Four C model of creativity that expands this dichotomy. Specifically, the authors add the idea of "mini-c," creativity inherent in the learning process, and Pro-c, the developmental and effortful progression beyond little-c that represents pr… Show more

“…Children's DT aptitude at 7 years predicts their future creative achievements and careers (Cramond, Matthews-Morgan, Bandalos, & Zuo, 2005;Runco, Millar, Acar, & Cramond, 2010). Thus the capacity to think divergently early in life may be essential for adults to later contribute important, influential ideas to society (Kaufman & Beghetto, 2009). However, given the importance of early DT, it is surprising how little research exists to determine the factors related to its emergence in the first place.…”

“…Fortunately, a need for clarifying these two controversial aspects appeared in scientific papers a couple of years ago. As mentioned above, the various levels of creativity were summarised by Kaufman and Beghetto (2009). We believe in the small c (like other theorists of organisational creativity) which can be measured with tests based on consensus, assessed by a manager or a co-worker.…”

“…In addition, creativity now is recognized as having multiple forms and purposes. Scholars like Kaufman and Beghetto (2009) differentiate these forms along a continuum of process and production. For them, "mini c" creativity describes transformative learning in which everyday people make personally meaningful interpretations of actions, insights and experiences; "little c" creativity describes routine everyday problem solving, workarounds, and creative expressions (often within work contexts); "Pro-C" creativity describes professional or vocational creativity that is significant but not eminent; and "Big C" creativity is recognized as major or "great" within a field.…”
